Sound Redesign
Here you'll find a collection of audio visualizers showcasing my sound design and sound effect work. The various audio editing and recording techniques I used for each project will be located next to their respective videos. Caminandes 3 Clip Redesign

In this section, I've included my sound effect redesign projects. Near each video, I will explain any details about how the sound design was created. Contact me here if you have further questions about these projects.
In this short clip taken from the Caminandes 3 animated video, I recorded sounds and effects in a studio setting and took various sound clips found in several SFX libraries to redesign its sound. The techniques and skills used to create this project include the following:
Recording (Foley and Vocal)
Sound Manipulation (Reverb, Automation, etc.)
Layering/Attention to Detail
Precision Timing
Collaboration
Editing in Pro Tools
Guardian Gorilla Radio Ad
Forest Golem SFX
Storytelling Lab
Old Time Radio Show
Heroes of the Storm Cinematic Trailer Redesign

I created this project to mainly showcase my ability to layer and manipulate different sounds together to create one whole sound. I used a lot of unconventional sound sources, like zipping up a jacket and shaking loose cassette tape, in order to create the Forest Golem sound. I used only clips from various sound libraries, so no recording was done for this project.
For this group project, I worked on the sound design and recording and submitted a rough layout to my partner, who did the final editing. We both wrote and mapped out the project together. We used a simple Lav microphone and recorded ourselves in a sound booth. I used Logic Pro to create this project, using different plug-ins and effects to manipulate both the spoken dialogue and the sound effects.
This project's main focus was to tell a complete story without using any dialogue. I came up with and mapped out the scene. I also recorded myself to properly express the emotion needed for the character in the scene. I used various techniques in sound editing and manipulation for this project, like layering, panning, EQ band automation, and more.
In this project, I was given the three characters' voice lines and the score. I then added different sounds and effects to the recorded lines to help convey the story, in the style of an old radio show. I used different sound effects and editing techniques to keep the listener more engaged with the story and help it flow better.

Cave Dragons Redesign
Fire Bear Redesign
In this project, I redesigned all the sound for the Heroes of the Storm cinematic game trailer. This includes the background, characters, movement, and everything else you can hear in this clip. I used both sound libraries and my own recordings to put this all together. A list of techniques and skills I used include:
Recording (Foley and Voicing)
Sound Manipulation (Panning, Pitch Shift, etc.)
Sound Layering
Precision Timing
Editing in Pro Tools
For this project, I was limited to recording only various household objects used in any way possible to create different types of sound. I created the sound for the 2 dragons shown in this clip and their actions. A lot of audio manipulation was used to achieve the sound in this clip, including the following:
Automation (Volume, Panning, Reverb Decay, etc.)
Time and Pitch Shift
Audio Reversal
Dynamics Processing & Clip Distortion
Layering & EQ
Audio Splicing
Editing in Pro Tools
I designed the sound for this creature in this project. Similar to some of the projects, I utilized various forms of manipulation, editing, and layering in order to create the final product. Those techniques and skills are as follows:
Precision Timing
Audio Splicing
Automation
Sound Manipulation (Frequency Boosting, Reversal, etc.)
Audio Layering
Editing in Reaper
Audio Restoration

In this section you will find all of my Audio Restoration projects that I've worked on. I restored a total of 48 different audio clips. In my restoration process, I used a 32-band DeClicking chain that was uniquely tailored to each individual clip. I then passed those through 2 Identical 12 dB DeNoising plug-ins to reduce the noise floor of each clip. Each of these videos contains snippets of the audio clips both before and after they underwent this process. If you have any questions regarding the audio files or restoration process, or want copies of the whole restored audio files, please feel free to contact me below.

About

My name is Samuel Boren and I am a current Digital Audio student at Utah Valley University. I was born in Omaha, Nebraska, but raised for most of my life in Highland, Utah.
At the age of 7, I started to take piano lessons, and ever since then I found a passion in music. Branching from that passion, I discovered my love for Sound Design and Digital Audio. When starting in college, I was aiming to be a Physician's Assistant for my career. After a year of classes working towards that goal, I realized that I wasn't enjoying what I was doing. After switching majors 3 more times, I found the Digital Audio program and instantly knew that this was what I was searching for.
I truly love creating and working under the large umbrella of Digital Audio, and I hope that you can feel that passion through the projects on this page.
